# Billing

> Choose a plan, manage your payment method, and handle upgrades, downgrades and cancellation through the secure billing portal.

Billing in Cliro is handled securely through Stripe. From the billing area you can activate a subscription, change plans, update your payment method and cancel.

## Activate a subscription

If your account has a plan assigned but billing isn't active yet, select a plan to start. Choose between **Monthly** and **Annual** billing — annual plans save 20%.

## Upgrade or downgrade

| Change                      | What happens                                                                                                                                     |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Upgrade**                 | Takes effect immediately. The prorated difference is charged to your saved payment method right away.                                            |
| **Downgrade / plan change** | Scheduled for the end of your current billing period. You keep your current plan until then, and the new plan activates automatically afterward. |

Your saved payment method is reused for plan changes — no need to re-enter your card.

## Manage subscription

Use **Manage subscription** to open the billing portal, where you can:

* Change your plan.
* Update your payment method.
* Cancel your subscription.

If you schedule a cancellation, the page shows the date your subscription will end. A plan change may also schedule a cancellation of the current subscription at period end, with the new plan starting the next cycle.

  Monthly usage counters reset when your billing period renews. Annual subscriptions still reset monthly usage allowances each month.
